Privacy Policy for "Read this text!" app

Introduction

Your privacy is important to us and we are committed to protecting it through our compliance with this policy.

This Privacy Policy describes what happens to the information you put into the "Read this text!" Android application, and what we do and do not collect.

This policy is effective as of August 7, 2026 (Version 2.0). It replaces the version dated June 21, 2023.

Information we DO NOT collect

"Read this text!" has no backend, no accounts and no analytics. We do not collect personal information, usage statistics, crash reports or device identifiers, and nothing is sent to the developer. There are no ads and no advertising or tracking libraries in the app. We have no user data to share or sell, because we do not collect any.

Your text

The text you type, paste, share from another app, or select in another app stays on your device. The app holds it in memory and hands it to the Android text-to-speech engine you selected so it can be turned into speech. It is not uploaded to us.

If you choose a third-party speech engine that offers network voices, that engine may send your text to its own servers in order to synthesize the audio. That is the behavior of the engine you selected, not of this app, and it is governed by that engine's own privacy policy. On-device voices work without a network connection.

What is stored on your device

Clipboard

The app reads your clipboard only when you ask it to: when you tap the "Paste" button, or when you use the home screen shortcut that reads the clipboard. It does not monitor or read the clipboard at any other time.

Permissions

The app declares the permissions playback needs: a foreground service of the media playback type, so audio can keep going and the media notification can be shown while you use other apps, and network access, which the speech engine you selected uses if you pick one of its network voices. On Android 12L and older, legacy storage permissions are declared by libraries the app is built on. The app does not request access to your contacts, location, camera or microphone.

Children's Privacy

The app does not collect any information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Thus, we recommend reviewing this page periodically for any changes.
